One of the hallmarks of addiction is denial. At some level, you know what you are doing is bad and this leads to cognitive dissonance. This means that you hold two conflicting ideas:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1 - the strong desire to drink and use drugs and ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2 - the knowledge that your actions are harmful. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You then protect these conflicting thoughts by using⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
denial. You find other causes for your problems and refuse to consider the possibility that it is substan

Know Your Cravings
A good tip for dealing with cravings is the "The Four Ds"⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1 - Delay – Cravings rise and fall like waves, if you can delay a relapse decision for 20 minutes you’ll generally find the cravings dissipate on their own.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2- Distract – Craving time passes more quickly when engaged in a distracting activity for a few minutes.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3 - Deep breathing – Deep breathing exercises help you maintain calm when cravings hit and stop you making a rash decision. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Alcohol Awareness Month
April is Alcohol awareness month and at Infinite Mindcare our focus this month will be on addiction and addictive behaviors.
