Denial?
One of the hallmarks of addiction is denial. At some level, you know what you are doing is bad and this leads to cognitive dissonance. This means that you hold two conflicting ideas:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1 - the strong desire to drink and use drugs and ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2 - the knowledge that your actions are harmful. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You then protect these conflicting thoughts by using⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ denial. You find other causes for your problems and refuse to consider the possibility that it is substance abuse . Does this sound familiar?
